SIBELIUS: Maiden in the Tower (The) / Karelia Suite

User's Review: A great work by Sibelius  I have been very curious to listen to this work for many times. Finally I have listened to it and I am a bit angry with myself to have waited so much time. Sometimes I think Sibelius was the Finnish version of Verdi: both the composers had a great rule in the independence movement of their Nations, and both the composers had a great sense of the theatre... User's Review: Sparkling Vivaldi  Vivaldi's violin concertos are rich examples of his craftsmanship echoing his perhaps unduly more famous works. Galfetti's approach to Baroque music is very personal, making these recordings stand out. It's a feast to experience his rendering of these wonderful musical gems.

User's Review: Method without Madness  Disc one is a set of short, five-minute Imaginary Portraits, created by feeding data about the subject into a computer, which then used the Method Music algorithms to convert them into sound. The first track, Meher Baba Piece is a morphing variation on the opening to the Who's hit Baba O’Riley (did I mention Pete Townsend produced this release?)... Read more

User's Review: Chandos Mendelssohn Piano Concertos  This album offers marvellous playing from Howard Shelley in every respect with excellent accompaniment from the London Mozart Players. Each work is dispatched with keen sensitivity and admirable perception. This is an outstanding album in every way, beautifully recorded.

User's Review: The lute in uncharted waters  This album has been described as crossover music. It is. For those accustomed to a conventional lute repertoire this may come as a surprise/shock. Ronn McFarlane takes the lute to other soundscapes usually associated with multi string guitars, helped no doubt by some engineering in the recording studio... Read more

User's Review: French Baroque Masterworks  Rachel Barton Pine and her two colleagues, John Mark Rozendaal (viola da gamba) and David Schrader (harpsichord), known collectively as Trio Settecento follow up their superb Italian and German collections with one devoted to composers of the French Baroque. The program is imaginatively assembled and stylishly executed. The sonics are just about perfect. Excellent liner notes to boot.

User's Review: Wonderfully emotional recording  The Auryn Quartet impresses with technical brilliance, a fast pace, but also a great depth in this interpretation of all of Schubert's String Quartets. The sound quality is good but not stunning. But the playing makes this a very enjoyable version. Without self-indulgence, the Auryn Quartet manages remarkable cohesion and a thoroughly solid performance.
