User's Review: A Splendid Romp This is not the Meyerbeer of such spectacular Grand French Opera-seria as 'Robert le Diable', 'Les Huguenots', 'Le Prophete' or 'L'Africaine'; in fact hearing this blind one might suspect a forebear of another German Jew turned more Parisian than the Parisians - Offenbach... User's Review: Brilliant album - reference class The way the choir interprets the different pieces is exceptional. Very differentiated with a high dynamic range. The interpretation is emotionally evocative and astonishing close to the score. While listening to the songs, you really feel the intention of Reger behind the complicated chromatics... Read more |

User's Review: Shostakovich and the Movies Shostakovich’s film scores (some 30 plus) offer a fascinating study in contrasts. On the one hand, the so-called public, Soviet style of the composer is manifested by the countless waltzes, polkas, galops, quasi folk tunes and banal ditties. Then there are the quintessential, searing, elegiac largos, sardonic scherzos and propulsive allegros which recall some of the finest moments in the symphonies... Read more |

User's Review: Inside Beethoven I had already admired Vanska's Beethoven symphony cycle with the Minnesota Orchestra and so was looking forward to this issue. This is the first time I have heard Yevgheny Sudbin play although I had heard of him... and what a wonderful surprise! In both concertos he seems right inside the music finding delicate nuances of personal (but not gratuitous) interpretation... Read more |

User's Review: Learn to Croon Rudy Vallee was one of the most popular crooners to come out of the early years of radio broadcasting. With his light tenor voice, often sounding as if he was singing falsetto, he was also one of the first to realize the potential of nationwide broadcasting. In the early 1930s, he popularized many classics, among them one of the first recordings of "As Time Goes By," which Dooley Wilson as Sam played again in "Casablanca"... Read more |

User's Review: Exquisite! This recording is really growing on me – enjoying it more every time I listen to it. Michelle not only has a beautiful voice but she uses it like a master with perfect control over every little tone and inflection. She manages to express each subtle nuance in these works. She has turned what could have been ‘just something different’ into a masterpiece. Bravo Michelle! |

User's Review: Great performance This is an unusual and amazing performance of three classic Haydn string quartets. Every musical idea is expressed with absolute clarity and often with a unique spin. Although I admire the elegant, cool, and ironic style of playing music from the classic period, I also loved this much more emotional performance with dramatic shading of tempo, dynamics, and ensemble. I have listened to this album many times now and never get tired of hearing it. |
