User's Review: Wonderful Timeless Russian Tunes Few tunes are more uplifting, more cheerful than traditional Russian folk songs. If you have any doubt just listen to the new compilation released by ARC Music in the UK entitled “Old Mother Russia, Songs of the Taiga”. This is music that is very much alive and that makes you feel that way too. Even melancholy sounds joyful here as in the music interpreted by the Balalaika Ensemble Wolga, the famed group that contributed its performance to the soundtrack of one of the Indiana Jones series of films... User's Review: Beautiful This beautiful collection of Scottish music features four different pipe bands. Each band covers three features and while they are all alike with bagpipes and drums their blends are uniquely distinct. This is a wonderful way to get a quick overview of the various pipes and drum sounds in Scotland. My personal favorite on this CD was the Pride of Murray Pipe Band's rendition of "Skye Boat Song". |

User's Review: New classics of Fado Custodio Castelo is a master of the guitarra portuguesa, a really cool instrument that looks like a mandolin and has odd tuning and sympathetic strings, like a baryton or sitar. It's an important part of the traditional accompaniment for the genre of music known as fado, which comes from 19th century Portugal and which remains very popular around the world today... User's Review: Nice, high quality folk recording This is a great recording of traditional Boyash songs. The recording quality is great, and the performances sound entirely authentic with vocal shouts in the background and all. This CD is full of folk songs with a strong beat; they are dance songs after all. A few slightly slower lyrical songs are included which create a nice contrast in the overall flow of the CD... User's Review: Yiddish songs I'm grateful that a competent vocalist has taken the time to record and release this culturally interesting and enjoyable music. The brief flowering of Yiddish produced a treasure trove of literature and music that is in danger of being lost. Thanks to artists like Ms. Bronstein, these songs can be enjoyed by us and future generations. |
