User's Review: Well worth the ride I bought this on a bit of a whim, and I am delighted. The first trilogy based on Native American songs are by the Latvian born Imant Raminsh. I feel that his Baltic roots can be heard in his music in spite of his now Canadian base. These deserve a five star rating... Read more |

User's Review: Beautifully played This is, like Beethoven's Emperor, a very popular piano concerto, so there's a lot of alternatives to choose from within the ClassicsOnline library. Well I listened to practically all of them, and guess what, I chose this one because the interpretation was so beautiful and romantic. Never could have expected this from this combination of players. |

User's Review:
Lively Play of Seldom Heard Pieces As so many Continental European listeners I know little about this Canadian formation. The more surprised you are to listen to a well-balanced, musical rendering of the seldom heard Mozart trios. They are far from the self-serving performances of stellar soloist. They make music as a true ensemble and give delight to the discerning listener. I look forward to hearing their rendition of the Beethoven trios. |

User's Review: So fun What fun! This is the kind of album you expect to hear at a Christmas party! So much energy with this group… even in the slower songs. Their harmonies are tight and together. Reminds me of something you’d hear from Manhattan Transfer. Love the jazzy style and the laid back approach to the carols we all know and love. I’d love to hear more from this group. |

John Corigliano has revisited his score for the 1997 film The Red Violin several times. In The Red Violin Caprices, content is allied to a technique making strenuous demands on the performer. The pensive Theme is identical in substance to that heard in the earlier Chaconne (Naxos 8.559306), and its five variations range in style from the Paganinian virtuosity of the first, to the restrained ‘folk’ tinge of the third. Corigliano’s Violin Sonata is among his earliest acknowledged works, its final Allegro enhanced by some scintillating instrumental interplay... Read more

KORNGOLD, E.W.: Symphony in F sharp major / Much Ado about Nothing Suite (Strasbourg Philharmonic, M. Albrecht)PTC5186373User's Review: One for your collection For those who are unfamiliar with Korngold's works, this is a must to add to your music collection. Beautifully played and well produced, this is a great introduction to Korngold who although born in Austria is recognised as an American composer since he was indeed a citizen of USA. |

IVES: Orchestral Sets Nos. 1-3 (Sinclair)8.559353 | |
The works on this recording focus on a singular genre created by a singular composer. The kind of piece Charles Ives called a ‘set’ is usually a larger work made by putting together independently-written smaller pieces. The First Orchestral Set, variously titled Three Places in New England and A New England Symphony, is one of Ives’s great tributes to his roots. Put together around 1913-14 from material going back years, it is typically Ivesian in that each movement has an underlying program... Read more |
