Former members of the Chorus include Edita Gruberová, Lucia Popp, Magdalena Blahušiaková and Ľubica Orgonášová. The Chorus has won prizes in competitions at home and abroad, including in Llangollen, Arezzo, Middlesbrough, Montreux, Gorizia, Tours, Oskarshamn, La Valetta, Maribor and Bergen. There have been performances also at international festivals and in New York, St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia, Seoul, Barcelona, Mar del Plata, Amman, Jerusalem, Isla de Margarita (Venezuela), Sardinia (Italy) and elsewhere, and collaborations with orchestras. The Chorus was founded by Štefan Klimo (1919–2000), who led the Lúčnica National Chorus for more then thirty years. In the years from 1983 to 1998 the principal chorus-master was Peter Hradil (1940–2001), who was succeeded by Marian Vach, the artistic and principal conductor in the years 1998–2003. The principal conductor since 2003 has been Elena Matušová.
