Forgotten thrushes 1920-30
Review By NS94944,May 2011

Fans of Nostalgia will probably know of Ruth Etting, Annette Hanshaw and Helen Morgan, but how many people remember Betty Morgan and the Ponce Sisters? This is a delightful collection with many obscure songs from the 1920s and 1930s. Feminists will surely be offended by “You Gotta Know How to Love,” a song in which a flapper advises others about how to keep a man, but anyone who wants to learn how far we’ve come from those dark ages is advised to listen carefully.

The download includes the album booklet with loads of useful information about some of the now forgotten thrushes of a by-gone time, few of whom deserve to be so neglected. As one of the lyrics advises, "Throw your Ford in high" and enjoy the ride.

All Naxos Historical, Naxos Classical Archives, Naxos Jazz, Folk and Rock Legends and Naxos Nostalgia titles are not available
in the United States and some titles may not be available in Australia and Singapore because these countries have copyright laws
that provide or may provide for terms of protection for sound recordings that differ from the rest of the world.
