Gorgeous Rare Violin Concertos

I have known & loved the Karlowicz concerto for many years from an old LP. It is beautifully played here.

Far rarer is the Machavariani Concerto. If you love the Khachaturian Violin Concerto you will love this too. It is very much like it indeed in all sorts of ways (almost a clone in places). The melodies are less memorable than in the Khachaturian.

However, I forgive all involved because of the stunningly vibrant, rich, big-hearted violin playing that is typically Russian and really suits this music. The virtuosity is really stunning in the old fashioned and romantic way.

Musical snobs and intellectuals will turn their noses up at this inconsequential music but I personally adore it.
