Haug's Symphony No.3, 'Inscrutable Life', is in two movements, both mainly slow. The music is quite difficult to understand, (inscrutable perhaps) but after several listenings I am convinced by it. I think it's a major work and a very cleverly-paced, beautiful one too.

(Small footnote: the information with the disk refers to a taped Nightingale Song in the second movement. In fact the song is of a Sprosser, or Thrush-Nightingale, a closely related species found in Norway, where the true Nightingale is absent).

The remaining pieces on the disc are three rather magnificent and Sibelian tone poems (Sibelius is a strong influence on Haug). These are an excellent accompaniment to the symphony.
