The Boult performances, in reasonable but now somewhat dated mono sound, remain very satisfying, putting many more recent versions of these works in the shade. This for me has always been the best ever Banks of Green Willow. The piano and string quartet version of the Vaughan Williams has a distinct poignancy, and this is also very well performed.

Trevor Harvey described the Holst as scintillating and so it remains, as do the other items, in a recording which sounds stupendous for its age; though mono only, there’s a good spread of sound.
