Review By Bob McQuiston,Tower.com,

"CDs don't get much better sounding than this one, which features music by one of the best late romantic composers to graduate from Harvard. These symphonic poems are beautifully written and orchestrated, but have an irreverence about them, which makes them more American than the European sounding creations of Converse's colleagues. This disc is a very entertaining, sonic spectacular!"

Review By Greg La Traille,Tower.com,

"Converse is an interesting composer whose music is meticulously crafted. Joann Falletta leads the Buffalo Philharmonic, and they sound like they're having a wonderful time mixing a familiar romantic musical language from an exciting "new" personality. You will too, and the price is great. Enjoy!"

Review By Raymond Tuttle,Fanfare,December 2002

"Here's another gift from Naxos's American Classics series, and I use the word "gift" almost literally, because this series goes from strength to strength, carefully recovering unjustly forgotten or neglected chunks of American musical history and offering them to listeners at near-giveaway prices. Can you imagine any of the "big" classical labels being this adventurous? Enough said.

It is good to see the Buffalo Philharmonic making CDs (between blizzards, I suppose), as this American orchestra used to have a higher profile. I hope this is a harbinger of things to come. They relish Converse's music and hold nothing back. Falletta, the orchestra's music director, confirms her position as one of the most imaginative and dependable conductors at work today.

Review By John Farrel,Long Beach Press Telegram,December 2003

"All three [works] show that there is much American music that deserves to be heard more often."

Review By Lawrence A. Johnson,South Florida Sun-Sentinel,October 2002

"JoAnn Falletta directs the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra with a strong incisive hand, yet allows Converse's melodies plenty of room to make their impact."
