A mixed bag!

Muller-Bruhl and his orchestra are obviously fine musicians, so it's disappointing to report that in the two symphonies here, you definitely get the feeling that no-one has rehearsed quite enough. There are no mistakes, but you can tell that the players are going through the notes, rather than really interpreting the music. There are also too few repeats - the last movement of Symphony 13, with a theme that Mozart would use more than twenty years later, seems over in a flash.

The Sinfonia Concertante is far better - perhaps this is where the rehearsal time went. The soloists are good (this is basically a concerto for four instruments and orchestra), and the orchestral contribution is vivid, with some mighty thwacks from the timpanist. Interestingly, Muller-Bruhl plays the more....
