Although designated Op.1, the six Orchestral Trios appear to be relatively late works (1775-6) and were designated by the composer to be performed optionally either as trios or by a fuller chamber orchestra, as here. They are each in four movements, elegant, simply constructed, with a divertimento-like character, but not trivial. The most striking is No.4 in C minor, which explores a wider range of expressive feeling than its companions, but the Siciliana-like Larghetto of the F major (No.3), followed by a rather striking Minuet and robust finale, also sets that work apart. They are very well played here, polished in ensemble with musical phrasing and good use of light and shade. The recording is very natural. But one cannot pretend this is
