with stylish and appealing contributions from the soloists, all drawn from the orchestra. The solo writing in the A major Sinfonia concertante is quite elaborate, and in the Andante of the E flat work there is a surprise when the two solo violins introduce Gluck’s Che faro senza Euridice, which is then taken up by the oboe. The second of the Op. 9 symphonies has a real lollipop Andante con sordini, presented over a pizzicato accompaniment. The balance is excellent.
