Review By Penguin Guide,January 2009

Benno Moiseiwitsch was a keen advocate of the Piano Concerto. It is not the greatest Delius but has wonderful moments, which Moiseiwitsch plays with great sensitivity and imagination. Lambert shows that it was not only Beecham and Barbirolli who could conduct Delius, as those who remember his On Hearing the First Cuckoo will already know. The rest of the disc is made up of mostly well-known pieces: Debussy’s Jardin sous la pluie and Ravel’s Jeux d’eau will delight not only those who grew up when these 78s were in currency but also younger collectors, who have not yet encountered them.
