Review By Penguin Guide,January 2009

Schnabel’s Emperor was recorded in 1932 when he was at the height of his powers. Schnabel had met Piatigorsky in the 1920s. Alas, they made no records, and this 1934 set of the G minor Cello Sonata is the sole representation of Schnabel’s collaboration with the greatest cellist. It is very distinguished indeed.
