"In the latest of what promises to be a splendid budget price series, we now have the 'Uncrowned King of Light Music' himself, conducting his own classic recordings between 1926-1940. Among them is the one which changed the face of both British broadcasting and light music generally. In March 1933 the first run through of the Knightsbridge march was halted when someone blew a wrong note. The second attempt was also halted when the wax broke, by which time it was approaching 1pm. Not only was it lunchtime but the orchestra was out of contract and did not get paid overtime. Coates was desperate and pleaded with them for just one more try, the other two movements already being 'in the bag'. Out of 'third time lucky' came the piece which, six months
