A composer well worth exploring

I'm old enough to have watched the original series of 'Dr. Finlay's Casebook' in the 1960s, which had a jaunty and memorable signature tune. That tune came from one of the movements of the 'Little Suite', written (only a few years earlier, in 1959) by the composer who called himself Andrew Duncan. Here we have many of Duncan's compositions to explore, and it's a rewarding task. The more lightweight compositions, for example 'High Heels' and 'Children in the Park', are immediately attractive and well-crafted pieces that anyone would enjoy. There are also more thoughtful works, where we can see Duncan not 'just' as a composer of good tunes, but as someone who wrote very fine, memorable music. Examples include 'Meadow Mist', 'St Boniface Down' and 'The Girl from Corsica', pieces which more....
