This fourth instalment in the Naxos series of Rubinstein’s middle period Chopin recordings (after the two Piano Concertos on 8.111296, the Polonaises on 8.111346 and the Waltzes and Impromptus on 8.111365) presents recordings from the two extreme ends of the period. The Sonata and Preludes were recorded in 1946 and first issued on 78 rpm discs, while the remaining selections were recorded on tape in 1957 and 1958. Review By Jordi Caturla González,Ritmo,December 2011

Review By Brent Auerbach,American Record Guide,November 2011

The Etude in F, Op. Posthumous, is brilliant in its own way, soft and refined and full of expressive rubato. The end is particular striking in the way the perpetual three-against-four texture is slowed down to a crawl with nary a ripple in flow. The Berceuse is delicate and light, but also extremely mannered. Usually I detest mannered readings like this, but I found myself enjoying hearing it played more like a miniature tone poem than as a showpiece.

Review By Gary Lemco,Audiophile Audition,June 2011

Reissue producer and audio restoration engineer Mark Obert-Thorn brings out his fourth installment in the Naxos series of Arthur Rubinstein’s Chopin recordings for RCA Victor…Performing in New York City in 1946, Rubinstein had good control of his faculties, and he increasingly communicated a love for his craft in his so-called “middle period” from just after WW II through 1960.
