Holst orchestral works vol.2
Review By CB114816,February 2011

This so close to being outstanding. First of all, it's a magnificent piece of engineering. The bass end is particularly impressive. Detail is amazing. I never knew there was an organ part in 'Mars' for instance! Superb glockenspiel in 'Mercury'.

As an interpretation 'The Planets' might just be a tad too 'straight' for some. I can think of other versions which offer a more terrifying 'Mars' (Steinberg springs to mind for example).

However the couplings are more than mere makeweights. 'Beni Mora' has a couple of tunes that will be lodged in the mind for days to come.

First-rate and so close to a top choice.
