A forgotten pianist who deserves more
This is another historic performance captured on the excellent download-only Naxos Classical Archives collection. This label with its amazing low prices is well worth exploring and a regular trawl through of its many hundreds of titles will always reveal hidden gems. Of the three works on this album, I have heard no performances that surpass those of the largely forgotten and certainly underrated Hungarian pianist Edith Farnardi who died in 1973 but her playing of the famous Schubert wanderer fantasy orchestrated by Liszt is simply awe-inspiring with enthusiasm enhanced by the urgency and gravitas provided by Sir Adrian Boult and the London Philharmonic Promenade Orchestra. For anyone tired of hearing such popular works try these and indeed others from the same budget label, and have your senses re-sharpened.more....
