A must for the student - and an unexpected delight
Froberger is a somewhat forgotten composer and unless you are studying the beginning of Romantic music or work your way through Taruskin, you may never encounter him. He is most famous for his Tombeau de M. Blanceroche. There aren't many Froberger recordings out there. To find one with Blandine Verlet was a very pleasant surprise. Verlet is one of the finest harpsichordist - her Bach recordings are legendary. Although she gives Froberger an almost religious spin, her rendition of "Lamentation faite sur la mort tres douloureuse de Sa Majeste Imperiale" is magnificent in its clarity and feeling. Highly recommended for the serious student, and as a first encounter with Froberger.more....
