The English church music tradition at its best
Under the direction of Martindale Sidwell the St Clement Danes choir achieved, in 1985, the highest standards in small choir singing only recently approached by the likes of the Cardinalls Musick and the Dunedin Consort. This disc of music typical of the English Church year contains some real gems. The Stanford 'Coelis ascendit hodie' and the rarely recorded Ireland 'Greater love' are particularly fine. The interplay between Lynne Hirst and John Wilbraham in 'Let the bright seraphim' illustrates the flair coupled with musical discipline that characterised Sdiwell's direction. A 'must-have' for any connoisseur of the English Church Music tradition. more....
