ClassicsOnline Home » VIVALDI: 12 Sonatas for Violin and Continuo, Op. 2
Very advisable to listen to. The early works composed by Vivaldi are full of content, flavor and harmony. The Op. 2 sonatas, published before his first concerti sets for violins - L'Estro Armonico and La Stravaganza - have a strong venetian influence, somehow dark, compact, rigid, and conservative. I believe Vivaldi intended Op. 2 to be a standard for violin sonatas, also a response to Op. 5 by Corelli.
Almost each composer created one or two violin sonatas. I like Vivaldi Op. 2, you may try Bonporti Op. 10 'Invenzioni', Albinoni Op. 6 'Trattenimenti armonici', Veracini Op. 1 'Valentini' or Op. 4 'Idee per camera'. All I have mentioned were composed around 1710.more....
A not very known Vivaldi
As one of the greatest geniuses of the musical Baroque Era, Antonio Vivaldi is known for a well number of famous compositions (The 4 Seasons at the top). But the Venetian musician wrote so many works that it is impossible to remember all of them. I heard once, long ago the Violin Sonatas Op. 2. Each of Vivaldi's composition can't escape from his genius. I was lucky to find this excellent version, now in my archive. Highly recommended.more....
