Excellent 20th Century Music
If you are into the intellectual music of the 20th and 21st Century, this is a must album. Jeffrey Mumford is a professor at Oberlin College and an adjunct Professor at Lorain County Community College.
He is a native of Washington D.C. who has found his way to Ohio. His music is stunning and brilliant. The influence of Elliott Carter, his mentor, are evident throughout this recording. His music is light and transparent at times, aggressive and poignant at other times.
My favorite was the piece written for the CORE Ensemble, "A Window of Resonant Light". The seven movements take you through different views through a window. The piece concludes with the repetition of the first movement as if telling the listener 'the view changes, yet it is always the same.' Many may find this album a difficult listen, but stay with it, it is a very rewarding listen.more....
