A classic restored
In the heyday of his career, Isaac Stern was called the 'youngest of the great and the greatest of the young.' Sadly, most of his recorded legacy still available came from later in his career and does not reflect his best work. Here accompanied by the greatest Brahmsian of his time and with an excellent cellist, we can hear what all the excitement was about. Within a richly romantic texture woven by Walter - when did the New York Philharmonic last sound this good - Stern and Rose play with warmth, musicality, intelligence and make the work a real concerto without losing sight of the work's symphonic structure. The sound is better than you might expect for a recording of this vintage.more....
