Italian Nostalgia
The first time I heard anything by Rota, I thought of Rhino Nota - big notes! Beautiful music, long melody lines and exciting chords. The tension is to touch like in a western movie although these Sonatas and other outstanding pieces are for violin or viola performed by a skilled soloist at a confident level. Good sound in piano too, I think, as many details in Rota's music shine through when the ear gets familiar with them. All in all a possession to get hold of especially if the music should be part of a repertoire. Nice interpretation, good quality and not the worst actuality either. Dice throw: 5.8 out of 6.0. Do not hesitate. It is probably the only recording with similar content to find!more....
