Clementi Symphonies
Clementi's four symphonies are among the very finest late-classical works. They are lively, inventive, full-spirited, and very well-made. They are Italianate Haydn, as opposed to Mozart, and share the same spirit as Beethoven's even-numbered symphonies. If they are not as memorable as either Haydn or Beethoven, they still give give great pleasure (unless you try to find profundity in them). The Bamert performances are the best currently available performances of these lovely works. The Scimone performances are sluggish in comparison. It is possible that at some time in the future there may be performances that rival these, but it is not likely given the woeful neglect of Clementi's orchestral output. Buy them and enjoy.more....
