I listened to the Bartók portion of this album on Naxos before purchasing 6 of the tracks from this collection to use as examples for a paper I was writing on the ways Bartók used intervallic material from folk melodies to compose a setting for that melody (via pitch cells, symmetry, and vertical sonorities based on derived scales).
All the Bartók pieces on the album clearly state the folk melodies they are based on, so it is really fun to listen to the source material juxtaposed with the compositions. I have not listened to the Kodaly selections, but I imagine the spirit of the presentation is similar. As far as I've listened, Árapád Joób has done a beautiful job.more....
