Anton Bruckner is regarded as one of the great symphonists of the nineteenth century. His symphonies broke new ground, the sheer size and scope of each work combining the passion of Beethoven and the orchestral weight of Wagner. He gained little public approval until the last ten years of his live, but this epic cycle is now regarded as one of the major summits of symphonic composition.

Ladies and gentlemen, the title of my talk tonight is "Bruckner and I…" 9:38
So I mention that because this was completely new territory, especially in New Zealand… 12:22
And now, the composer himself… 12:29
So, suddenly he who had written four rather ordinary masses before… 14:27
And now we come to the word Cosmos… 8:01
Now, ladies and gentlemen, I shall, if you can still bear it, play to you a few examples… 17:14
