Franz Krommer, a Viennese contemporary of Beethoven, was a composer of delightfully inventive joyous music, one fine musical idea rolling out after the other, an endless flow of melody often reminiscent of Mozart at his sunniest. Krommer was particularly fond of the clarinet, and even wrote double concerti for the instrument. Here he contrasts the various colors of that agile wind instrument with the violin and the orchestra.
