Rosinda is the ninth of 11 operas that Francesco Cavalli created with his librettist, Giovanni Faustini…
The singers…are generally admirable. Top honors go to Galli, as the frustrated sorceress, and to Mazzulli as the title character, her potion-generated rival. Sakurada has been turning up a lot in recordings lately and here has a solid role to show off a reliable tenor voice. Ebau has to adapt his strong bass tones to three different roles. And the outstanding soprano Vajente must switch between the queenly Persephone and the high-spirited servant Aurilla—and she is particularly delightful.
The sound is consistently clear and reliable, with almost no stage-noise distractions. In all, the production gives an entertaining idea
of 17th Century Venetian comic opera. © 2012 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide online
