Fabulous Spanish classical album
All the performers on this recording are top-notch! The first track, Poema concertante, is a story in itself, beautifully played by Rachel Barton Pine. Lucia Duchonova has a warm, rich mezzo voice that is perfect for Cinco canciones negras. With a clarity of tone that doesn’t step over the boundaries of darkness, she sensitively interprets Montsalvatge’s songs. Her upper range has a lightness that might not be expected for a mezzo, but it creates a beautiful effect and contrast to her lower range without sounding inconsistent to her natural voice. In Concerto breve, Jenny Lin’s piano moves in and out of the orchestral texture seamlessly. Her expert playing is a joy to listen to. Overall, this is a wonderful recording of pieces by a fabulous composer, perfectly mixing vocal and instrumental music. I personally love Spanish music, and this recording will please anyone with a love of classical and Spanish musics.more....
