Protestantism and the baroque  

Although a little bit uptight in his composition reflecting its local religious holdback tradition, Buxtehude achieves paradise in a real sincere spiritual atmosphere, so focused in theological truth that we can feel his fear of hell. Hard to listen to such a piece in baroque music, more likely to be found in the East Orthodox tradition. The impeccable performance reveals a hard working study throughout the vocal registers that would envy all of the best singers in the world. The conducting is rigid but full of a tiny light, typical of the composition epoque, shining out every talent without obscuring the text or the author.
