This recording gives you the top of the early music performers: Klaus Mertens, mostly known for his cooperation with Ton Koopman to perform all the Bach cantatas (so he sang al the Bach arias, extra-ordinary!), and Accademia Daniel directed by Shalev Ad-El. This small chamber group plays on authentic instruments in a great convincing way.
Klaus Mertens and Accademia Daniel have made several recordings together. Bass cantatas by Graupner, Telemann etc., all produced with great care.
The unique thing about this recording are the unknown composers Kegel, Wolff, Roemhildt, Hoffmann and Donati. The only famous composer on this disc is Telemann, but the piece is also unknown. My admiration for this kind of discs is great. It's a great risk for the performers and the record label to produce this kind of this discs. It's a marketing fact that most of the consumers want famous composers to listen to.
I hope that many people will enjoy this disc, all the pieces are solid baroque pieces. Some are not very special but entertaining, other pieces (for example pieces by Hoffmann and Donati) are great compositions with depth and passion.
This disc is highly recommended!more....
