Ulrich Knorzer

Ulrich Knörzer first learnt the violin, before changing three years later to the viola, going on to study with Rainer Moog at the Cologne Music School and with Karen Tuttle at the Juilliard School in New York. He participated in master-classes with Max Rostal, Sandor Vegh, Nobuko Imai, Wolfram Christ and Yuri Bashmet. Since 1990 he has been a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and makes regular appearances in chamber music, notably with the Berlin Scharoun Ensemble. Since 1999 he has been a professor of viola at the Berlin Hochschule der Künste. His engagemements as a soloist have included Bartók’s Viola Concerto on a number of occasions.
