Tomo Matsubara


Tomo Matsubara was born in 1979 in the Japanese city of Osaka. In 1979 he took first prize in the Japan Singing Competition and from 1998 to 2004 studied at the Tokyo State Music School (Gei Dai). He had stage experience in Tokyo, appearing as Masetto in Don Giovanni, the Father in Hänsel und Gretel, Marco in Gianni Schicchi, Harlequin in Ariadne auf Naxos and Danilo in Die lustige Witwe. In 2006 he changed to tenor rôles, studying at the Munich Hochschule für Musik und Theater, singing Hermenegild in Fredegunda, Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi and the Stage Director in Radames by Peter Eötvös. In the concert hall he has appeared as a soloist in major works by Bach, Handel and Mendelssohn, as well as in Schumann’s Paradies und die Peri and Poulenc’s Le bal masqué.
