Born in 1979 in Augsburg, Tobias Haaks began his musical training as a cathedral chorister, going on to study at the Augsburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater, before moving to the Munich Musikhochschule, in 2005 changing from baritone to tenor. At the Salzburg Mozarteum he sang Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and in Augsburg Guglielmo in Così fan tutte and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte. In Munich he sang Pisone in Steffani’s Alarico and Dandini in Rossini’s La Cenerentola. In 2006 he took rôles in Henze’s Das Wundertheater, Ein Landarzt and Das Ende einer Welt, appearing the following year in Fredegunda in Munich and in Karlsruhe. In the same year he was a prize-winner in the Chamber Opera Competition as Max in Der Freischütz at the Schloss Rheinsberg Chamber Opera. In 2008 he joined the Brunswick State Theatre, where he has sung the Steersman in Der fliegende Holländer and Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
