The mezzo-soprano Stefanie Irányi was born in the Chiemgau. After a period abroad she began vocal studies in 1997 at the Munich Hochschule für Musik und Theater, completing her training there with distinction in 2006. She was a student in the Lieder masterclass of Helmut Deutsch in Munich, and participated in masterclasses with Sarah Walker, Sena Jurinac and Christa Ludwig. She was a scholarship holder of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation and in 2000 prizewinner of the German Bühnenverein. In 2004 she was prizewinner in the Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau, and in the Romantic Song section of the International Promotion Prize Competition in Munich. In autumn 2004 she took first prize in the National Singing Competition in Berlin. Stefanie Irányi gives Lieder recitals at home and abroad, with, among others, Helmut Deutsch. She sang the alto solos of the St Matthew Passion in Japan under Peter Schreier, Bachʼs Magnificat under Helmuth Rilling and a leading rôle in Agostino Steffaniʼs opera Alarico il Baltha at the Prince Regent Theatre in Munich.
