Silke Avenhaus


Silke Avenhaus appears as a soloist and in chamber concerts in a career that has brought performances throughout Germany as well as in Britain, France, Holland, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Hungary and the United States. She has played in venues such as the Berliner Philharmonie, the Philharmonie and Herkulessaal in Munich, the Semperoper Dresden, St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and various festivals throughout Europe. Silke Avenhaus was born in Karlsruhe, took her first recorder lessons in Vienna at the age of five and attended her first piano lessons at the age of six. Still young she won numerous competitions and was awarded a scholarship by the Edwin Fisher Fund. Her teachers included Anna Stadler, Klaus Schilde and Bianca Bodalia. She also benefitted from studying with György Sebök at Indiana University in Bloomington and repeatedly worked with Andras Schiff. Silke Avenhaus plays regularly as a duo partner of Thomas Zehetmair, Irena Grafenauer, Quirine Viersen, Christoph Poppen, Tabea Zimmermann, Isabelle Faust, Jörg Widmann, Antje Weithaas, Clemens Hagen, and Benjamin Schmid, and is a member of the Munch-Trio with Arvid Engegård and Xenia Jancovic. She has performed with orchestras such as the Radio Sinfonie orchestras of Hamburg, Saarbrücken and Berlin. She has made numerous radio and television recordings for most of the German broadcasting companies, the BBC, Radio France and Suisse Romande, and CD recordings for a number of leading record
