Sächsische Bläserakademie
The Saxonian Wind Academy was founded in 1990 by principal wind players from the Chemnitz Robert Schumann Philharmonic in order to devote itself to chamber music, in addition to playing for operas and concerts. The repertoire included, in particular, the serenades of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries for octet with double bass, but also works of the twentieth century for ensembles ranging from sextet to nonet. The Academy also performs major wind compositions in collaboration with musicians of the leading Saxonian orchestras. The ensemble made its début in 1990 with the Chemnitz Encounters Festival, followed by concert appearances throughout Germany, and in Austria, Italy, Belgium and Israel, recordings, broadcasts and first performances of works by Siegfried Matthus and Georg Katzer.
