Sandro Simoncini

Alessandro Simoncini graduated with first-class honours from Milan’s Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory, under the supervision of Paolo Borciani. He then went on to study for a further three years at Franco Rossi’s School of Chamber Music within the Florence Conservatory. He began winning both recognition and awards at an early age, taking first prize at the Italian National Competition for Violin Students in 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1976, and overall first prize at the International Violin Competition in Senigallia in 1975. He has toured with I Nuovi Virtuosi di Roma (France, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Japan) and I Solisti Veneti. With the latter he has also recorded a CD and appeared in a film for French television, Hommage à Vivaldi. In recent years he has worked with such renowned chamber ensembles as I Solisti della Scala and I Virtuosi Italiani. He has also been invited to perform with the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, under the baton of conductors such as Riccardo Muti and Myung-Whun Chung. He has been a jury member for several violin competitions (Vittorio Veneto, Tortona, etc.), as well as giving international masterclasses in Fivizzano, Asolo and Saluzzo, and string quartet master-classes in Treviso, under the auspices of the Asolo Musica organisation. Since 1979 he has been Violin Professor at the Arrigo Boito Conservatory in Parma.
