Rolf Ehlers was born in Wiesbaden, and grew up near Frankfurt in Germany. He studied musicology, German and Italian in Freiburg and Cremona, and had his vocal training with Martin Ohm, Philipp Heizmann and Winfried Toll. He sings tenor and performs as a soloist in many professional chamber choirs in Switzerland and Germany and The Netherlands, including the Camerata Vocale Freiburg, Balthasar-Neumann-Chor, Chamber Choir of Europe, Amsterdam Baroque Choir, Swiss Chamber Choir, Gewandhaus Chamber Choir, Immortal Bach Ensemble, ChorWerk Ruhr, and the Deutscher Kammerchor. His repertoire consists of various tenor and countertenor solo parts especially in early music.
He also has a busy concert career in the area of contemporary music (Schola Heidelberg, Basler Madrigalisten, Anton-Webern-Chor Freiburg), the latest being the chamber opera En sussuros los muertos by Gualtiero Dazzi. He sings regularly with the Chapelle Rhénane and in the Dufay Ensemble. Both ensembles have released various recordings, some of which have won prestigious international awards, including the Diapason d’Or and Diapason découverte.
