Update me on new releases by Gainsford

Read Gainsford

Richard Spece, a native of Oregon, studied clarinet performance first at Portland State University, acquiring his B.M. in clarinet performance, followed by an M.M. in clarinet performance from University of Washington. Meanwhile, across the globe in London, Read Gainsford, a native of New Zealand, began his formal music studies in piano performance, acquiring his Concert Recital Diploma (premier prix) from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Both musicians, who have won distinction as performers, pursued their respective Doctorates of Music at Indiana University School of Music in the early 1990s. They played together on multiple occasions during their doctoral studies which culminated in a highly regarded and compelling performance of Béla Bartók’s Contrasts and Olivier Messiaen’s Quatuor pour la fin du temps. Since those early days, the two have hoped to share the performance stage again. Spece and Gainsford also shine as skilled educators. Spece has taught at universities in Washington, Oregon, Indiana, Texas, and Maryland and is a sought-after clinician. Gainsford taught first in New York, and now in Florida. Both men teach a love of performance to their students and have developed hundreds of aspiring musicians by communicating love for the art of music-making, focusing on musical expression and integrity, and demanding expert technical skills.
