Update me on new releases by Podger

Rachel Podger

Rachel Podger, unquestionably one of the world’s leading period-instrument specialists, studied violin at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama with various teachers including Micaela Comberti, a former pupil of period-performance pioneer Eduard Melkus. Whilst still at college she founded The Palladian Ensemble and Florilegium, as well as playing with period-instrument ensembles such as the New London Consort and London Baroque. She has also worked with the Gabrieli Consort, Arte dei Suonatori, the Academy of Ancient Music and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Teaching Baroque violin is a significant part of Podger’s work, at the Guildhall, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the Bremen Hochschule für Kunst and the Royal Danish Academy of Music. The existence of these prestigious posts also illustrates the curiously separate status that Baroque performance holds in many institutions (not yet extended to classical or Romantic performance) and in the string-playing profession.
