Peter Savidge


Born in Essex, Peter Savidge read History at Cambridge University and studied singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has had a long association with Britten rôles, notably, the seven baritone rôles in Death in Venice at the Opéra de Nancy and for the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Ned Keene (Peter Grimes) for the Royal Opera House, Palermo, Welsh National Opera, Oper der Stadt Köln, the Opéra du Rhin and at the Teatro Communale dell’Opera di Genova, Junius (The Rape of Lucretia) in the Montpellier Festival, Travel Agency Clerk (Death in Venice) for the Royal Opera House, Mr Coyle in a new C4 production of Owen Wingrave and in concert for VARA, War Requiem at the Festivales Musicales, Buenos Aires. His many rôles at Welsh National Opera and Opera North include Figaro (The Barber of Seville), The Count (The Marriage of Figaro), Danilo (The Merry Widow), Marcello (La Bohème), Ping (Turandot), the title rôle Don Giovanni, Valentin (Faust), Zurga (Les pêcheurs de perles), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) and the title rôle Evgeny Onegin. Rôles elsewhere include Lescaut (Manon) for the Royal Opera House, Alfonso (Così fan tutte) for Glyndebourne Touring, Scottish Opera and the Opéra de Nantes, Belcore (L’elisir d’amore) at the Opéra Comique in Paris, Creonte (L’anima del filosofo) for Opéra de Lausanne, rôles in
