Peter Franks

Peter Franks studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Centre for Orchestral Studies, taught by Bernard Brown and Raymond Simmons. At the age of 22 he was appointed to the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. He has had the honour to perform and record with many distinguished conductors, both with the SCO and as guest principal elsewhere. As a soloist he played Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto under the direction of Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto with Carl Davis, and the Vivaldi Double Trumpet Concerto at the Paris Châtelet and the Edinburgh Festival. He participated in the première of Strathclyde Concerto No 3 for Trumpet and Horn by Peter Maxwell Davies, in Scotland, London and the United States. Peter Franks is a trumpet lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, is a founder member of SCO Brass, and has a keen interest in arranging for wind and brass, resulting in several publications.
