Soprano Muriel Harding (1921-1990) joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in July 1946, soon she was playing small parts, and during the first year with the Company she performed the rôles of Elsie Maynard in The Yeomen of the Guard, Fiametta in The Gondliers, Lady Ella in Patience, as Kate in The Yeomen of the Guard.
She toured the U.S.A. and Canada with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company three times - in 1947-1948, in 1951, and again in 1955-1956 for seven months. The first time she sang small-parts, but on the last two concert tours she was a principal.
Her regular rôles in 1948-49 were the Plaintiff, Lady Ella, Zorah in Ruddigore, and Kate in Yeomen, and she would also perform Josephine, Mabel, Patience, Elsie, and Gianetta for the rest of her tenure with the Company. In April 1956 Muriel Harding retired from the Company.
She can be heard on eight D'Oyly Carte recordings: as the Plaintiff (Trial, 1949), Josephine (Pinafore, 1950), Mabel (Pirates, 1950), Elsie (Yeomen, 1950), Gianetta (Gondoliers, 1950), Ella (Patience, 1951), Aline (The Sorcerer, 1953), and Psyche (Princess Ida, 1955).
