Update me on new releases by Sweeney

Michael Sweeney

Michael Sweeney has served as principal bassoonist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 1989. As a soloist he is most interested in baroque, classical and postmodern/post-minimalist work. In 2003, with The Seiler Strings/Via Salzburg, he commissioned and gave the première of three new works for bassoon and ensemble and subsequently recorded them along with Mozartʼs Bassoon Concerto. His CD, Mozart and well beyond, on the Aficondo label, won particular praise from Gramophone magazine. In addition to performing he is also interested in the field of Mozart studies, and is currently at work on a commentary which will accompany his critical/performing edition of Mozartʼs Bassoon Concerto.
