Michael Maniaci (b1976)


Michael Maniaci trained at the Juilliard School and Cincinnati Conservatory of Music while gaining experience with several important young artist programmes such as Glimmerglass Opera’s Young American Artist Program, Wolf Trap Opera, Aspen Opera Theater, and Tanglewood Music Festival, as the first countertenor or male soprano ever invited to train there. He is a winner of the 2002 Richard Tucker Study Grant and took First Place honours in the 1999 Houston Grand Opera Competition. He has won unusual critical acclaim for his natural male soprano voice and dramatic artistry in a remarkable career that has brought appearances in North America and throughout Europe. He made his début at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Nireno in Handel’s Giulio Cesare, while his Armando d’Orville in Il crociato in Egitto marks his début at La Fenice. Michael Maniaci made his Carnegie Hall début in 2002 with the Orchestra of St Luke’s in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. Other orchestral engagements have included appearances with Tafelmusik, the New Holland Baroque Orchestra, the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, and a tour with Académie Baroque de Montréal throughout Canada and Germany. He has also performed in concert throughout Asia with the Shanghai Opera Orchestra, and been heard in concert with L’Opéra de Montréal and at the Tanglewood
