Update me on new releases by Farell

Marita Farell

The American soprano Marita Farell made her début at the Metropolitan Opera in 1937 as the Forest Bird in Siegfried, following this with the rôle of Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier. She continued with the Met for the following ten seasons, leaving the company in 1947, after appearing in 23 rôles and 230 performances. Surviving broadcast recordings include her performances as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, Amor in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, Xenia in Boris Godunov and Nedda in Pagliacci. Her characterization of Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier was much praised by contemporary critics.
